Before you connect two systems, name the source of truth

Integrations do not remove disagreement. They move it faster. Decide which system owns each fact before data starts flowing.

Connecting systems sounds simple until both systems have a different answer for the same customer, order, or status. At that point the integration is no longer a technical task. It is a business rule that has not been written down.

Make the ownership table first

Before writing a line of integration code, list every field that will cross the boundary. For each one, decide who may create it, who may update it, and what happens when the other system disagrees.

Skip that table and the integration will not remove the disagreement. It will just move it faster.
